— Ecclesiastes 5:19–20 (NLT)
I have heard of people completely altering their lives in order to achieve greater peace within. For some people this is probably a good thing but how much change is too much? Don’t get me wrong, I am definitely a firm believer in giving to those in need whether it is food to eat, a place to sleep, or simply an ear to listen to their worries but can this ever be too much?
There are certain books on changing our entire lives to live a simpler, more fulfilling lifestyle. They focus on getting rid of all of the waste, clutter, and unnecessary expenses. Hoarding is a problem that many of us face today. We go shopping and think “Oh, this purse is on sale so I am gonna get it.” Two years and 20 other purses later, it’s still sitting in the bag it came in because it didn’t match any outfit we had at the time. This doesn’t just happen to women, it happens to men. My dad is one of the world’s worst! He buys things from people who need money and these things are either broken or Dad has no use for them so they sit collecting dust. The good part is that he is helping others but on the other hand his yard is full of junk!
Everything that does not come from faith is sin -Rom. 14:23
That means you can live a good life and be the nicest person in the world, but if you don’t live by faith in God, your good deeds don’t mean a thing. All-in-all we need to live for Jesus, not for ourselves.
